Alone during my shift again, the guy from the front desk came by to buy some stuff. I usually chat with people, asking about their day, smiling, and being friendly. But with him, I suddenly got really nervous. When I handed back his card, we said thank you, our eyes met, and a simple goodbye was exchanged. There was something about his eyes, the way he looked. It’s strange—I haven’t felt this way in a long time.
I managed to read his name on his tag—Bryan. Curiosity got the better of me, and when I got home, I tried to find him on Facebook. I thought we might have some mutual friends or something. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find him without knowing his family name. I hesitated to read his full name on his card. I didn’t want to be too obvious.
So, what now? I went to the hotel’s page, hoping to find some employee events he might attend.
Browsing…browsing… and there it was!
A few years ago, they had an event, and in one picture, Bryan was wearing some kind of medal. Maybe he won an award, who knows? I clicked the picture, checked who shared it, and boom! His name appeared.
Bryan Oliver.
First things first, I checked his relationship status: Single. A sigh of relief, and I swiped left to explore more of his photos. Wow, this guy is genuinely good-looking. I caught myself smiling while scrolling through. Driven by curiosity, I felt an urge to type his name in the Safari browser. To my surprise, he’s on Wikipedia. Now, that’s interesting!
Lost in the online exploration, I didn’t realize how late it had become. It’s already well into the night, and I have an early shift for tomorrow. Let’s call it a day.
The Dance of HEarts: Friendship and Unspoken Thoughts
The company swiftly responded, sending much-needed help to the store. It was a relief; the workload had taken its toll. On one particularly stressful night, I even ended up in the emergency room, feeling like I was having a heart attack due to overworking. Despite my high blood pressure, I didn’t take sick leave – working through discomfort was my norm.
After sending an email to my supervisor and the company, expressing the need for assistance to prevent burnout, they took action. “Lindsey, you’ll be working with a new part-timer named Elena, tomorrow,” my supervisor informed me. She mentioned that Elena said we used to work together in another store. I couldn’t recall her, but perhaps seeing her would jog my memory – I’ve never been great with names.
Today, I worked with Megan. Grateful for the company, we not only tackled our tasks but also enjoyed ourselves. Dancing to the music, sharing jokes, and being a bit crazy – it was a delightful change. Megan, in particular, felt like the sister I’d always wished for as an only child.
As she opened up about her boyfriend, my heart sank. It seemed he wasn’t fully committed, as evident when he got angry over a pregnancy joke. It irritated me – the lack of responsibility from some men. Megan, seemingly aware of the imbalance, she might be in denial.
What saddened me more was the realization that women should prioritize self-love before entering relationships. Megan’s fear of being alone led her to endure less-than-ideal treatment. While I held back my opinions, I prayed for her. Right now, that’s probably the best. I’ll share my opinion when she’s ready. For now, I just want to be there and listen.
“Gurl, just remember that God loves you. That you are loved. Don’t forget that.” I encouraged her.
The day unfolded, and we noticed Bryan passing by the store. His presence never failed to make me smile. Even just catching a glimpse of your back brightens my day. There’s something about you, I just can’t quite figure out yet.
I wondered if he ever thought of me the same way. Megan caught me smiling and questioned it.
“Hey, Lindsey Althea, why are you smiling” she teasingly interrupted.
I confessed to stalking Bryan on social media, discovering his fame, and learning that he had visited the store recently.
Megan dropped a bombshell – “When I started working here, Bryan had shown interest in me. The guys outside even talked about me with him” she added and mentioned this again. This revelation dampened my mood a little bit.
I shared that Bryan came to buy something the other night, “He’s shy around those he likes, which is why he never came on my shift.” Megan suggested.
Really, Megan? I get it. Okay.
As the day wrapped up and we had downtime, Megan and I danced to the music. Bryan passed by again, and I witnessed the exchange between him and Megan – the way they smiled at each other. That look of admiration, I recognized it; it’s the same way I look at him.
Megan was right. Bryan likes her.
